There are over 4000 km of maintained cross-country ski tracks in Kuusamo. Along the tracks there are many Lappish huts in gorgeously scenic places.

The Ollila area tracks run partly on frozen lake ice. There is a track starting from the yard of all our cottages, ready to lead you near or far, at your own relaxed pace or for some heavier training in more demanding terrain. In any case, great views and clean nature guarantee all skiers a pleasant outing in the great outdoors. We also rent skis if necessary.

Walking on top of even one-metre deep snow is fun for people of all ages.

The highest point of Kuusamo lake district, Muovaara Hill, offers you a great challenge and fantastic scenery for snowshoeing. There are plenty of routes at Muovaara and its surroundings, ranging from easy to demanding, on ready-made tracks or on unbroken snowdrifts. On the way you can have a picnic lunch by the campfire.

The quiet and tranquil nature that surrounds us is an excellent setting for nature photography. The glimmering white snow looks like it’s covered in thousands of sparkling diamonds, dotted with gorgeous snow-covered trees standing in the dusk. In the darkness of the night, the sky is studded with thousands of sparkling stars. And if you hit the jackpot, the magically flickering Northern Lights appear in the sky.

Our location in the middle of the lake area gives a good possibility to see the Northern Lights. If the sky
is clear and sun point activity is high, you will see them. That you can do yourselves near
your house. We don’t have any “mass of lights”.

If you want, it is available to take a snowmobile + sledge transfer to the high place,
Muovaara. There you can see the whole Northern Sky.

Ollila is located in Sossonniemi, which is a local historical fishing village. The fish populations in the local lakes are diverse and abundant. In our fishing program you will become part of the local fishing tradition by having a go at winter fishing with our professional fisherman. You can try your hand at both net fishing and ice fishing.

Fishing experience in Lake Kuusamo / Muojärvi , at the first snowmobile + sledge transfer to bigger lakes for professional, net fishing place. After that ( 1,5 – 2 hours ) we come back to Restaurant and drink a cup of warm drinks. And soon we go back to the nearest lake and start a hobby fishing period . After 1 – 2 hours we know who is the best fisherman and ready to come back to the warm Restaurant and have a nice soup lunch with coffee / tea.

45 km (all-day) husky safaris

Our partners MIKO Kennel and Husky Fun run all-day husky safaris. Both MIKO Kennel and Husky Fun have about 30 eager sled dogs ready for adventures. During the safari you will have a lovely picnic lunch outdoors ( or at Ollila Restaurant after trip). Take a day trip with the huskies and experience unforgettable moments with all your senses!

We partner in running husky programs with Ruka Husky Company & MIKO Kennel. Our Safari House is the starting point for their husky rides.

The program includes a husky ride, after which we will go to Juomuskota to warm up by the fireplace and have a tasty soup lunch. Your guide will tell you information about the sled dogs.

Our guide will take you in a snowmobile sleigh to the nearby reindeer farm, where hundreds of reindeer are waiting in their feeding enclosure in the shadow of the forest. You can feed, stroke and photograph the nosy reindeer in the enclosure. The reindeer herder will tell you about his pets on the visit. Did you know that reindeer horn is the quickest growing bone in the world?

In addition to the excellent snowmobile route network of Kuusamo, you have our own safe and less crowded routes at your disposal. You can also stop at Ollila for lunch and continue your trip east or west, south or north.
