Winter Fishing

Ice fishing for perch or whitefish is available during the winter season. Join us in examining the nets or take a walk on the ice to watch professional fishermen fishing with a winter seine. After fishing you can be taken to Sossonniemi village to see how the day's catch is brought ashore. At the end of the day our kitchen will prepare a tasty meal out of the fresh catch.

Snowmobiling

In addition to the excellent snowmobile route network of Kuusamo you have our own safe and less crowded routes at your disposal. Fill up your tank at Ollila and carry on your trip east or west, south or north. A private route leads directly to Ollila from the airport. The straight route to Suoperä border crossing point and thereon to Russia runs by Ollila Holiday Cottages. Snowmobile Route Map

Cross Country Skiing

There are over 400 km of maintained cross-country ski tracks in Kuusamo. There are many Lappish huts situated along the tracks. They are perfect places for a break and a viewing of the magnificient scenery of the wintery Kuusamo. The Ollila area tracks run partly on the frozen lake. There is a track starting from the yard of all our cottages, ready to lead you to a pleasant outing in the great outdoors. Route Map

Snow-Shoe hHiking

The highest point of Kuusamo lake district, the Muovaara Hill, offers you a great challenge and a fantastic scenery for snowshoeing. There are plenty of routes at Muovaara ranging from easy to demanding, both on ready-made tracks or in the unbroken snowdrifts. The hilltop is a good place for a picnic lunch in a Lappish hut or outside by the campfire.

The Reindeer Forest

You will find an original site for gathering reindeer, which has been used for this purpose since 17th century. Reindeer have always been gathering to this site in search of food and shelter. Today the site is surrounded by heavy forest where numerous reindeer are kept free, outside of enclosures. This is a place where you can come close to reindeer, and feed them in their own natural environment. You might also meet with a local reindeer farmer who will be happy to tell you stories of his way of life.

Meet a genuine local Shaman who will protect his folk with his powerful spells! The performance is based on the history of our village, and it will give you an overview of the history of the Lapps. The Shaman performance can be ordered to entertain your group over dinner.
